The One Thing You Should Buy Before Summer

Eye Care Brooklyn, NYSwimming laps is an excellent workout for just about anybody because it’s easy on your muscles and joints. If you were just injured, then your doctor and physical therapist may encourage you to swim laps to strengthen your joints without doing further damage to them in the process. Even though lap swimming may be good for your body, it can certainly wreak havoc on your eyes if you’re not careful. Before you think about swimming without goggles, we have a few reasons why you should reconsider.

Chlorine Can Dry Your Eyes Out

Do you remember swimming with your eyes open when you were a kid while you were diving for rings? If so, then you probably also remember coming out of the water with your eyes feeling dry, tired, and like they were going to fall off. Chlorine can dry your eyes out which can be extremely uncomfortable. And if you swim without goggles on too often, then it can cause some more permanent damage.

Pool Water Is Dirty

Although chlorine helps to keep the water clean, it’s not necessarily going to keep dirt, sand, leaves, or anything else out of the water. And, when that stuff is in your water, it’s more likely to get into your eyes which is the last thing you want.

You Can See Better

The obvious reason why you should get some good fitting goggles is that they will actually help you see underwater. Water can obstruct your vision, but when you have good fitting goggles, you won’t have to worry about accidentally bumping your head into the side of the pool or running into the person swimming laps next to you.

When you are out shopping for new swimming goggles, make sure that they fit snug enough to keep water out, but that they are not too tight that they put pressure in them either. To learn more, contact our Brooklyn office at 718-676-6464.
